WAGONER CARNEGIE LIBRARY

Like the small library at Frederick, Oklahoma, the Wagoner Carnegie Library is a perfect example of the libraries that Carnegie and Bertram envisioned for their grant program. The building is compact and serviceable, not too showy or ostentatious, well lit with windows and dignified in appearance. There is no wasted space.

The library's exterior features a triangular pediment supported upon pairs of Ionic columns, with a formal stairway leading to the front doors. In general,  the Wagoner Carnegie Library is a perfect example of public architecture around the turn of the last century.

The library opened in October 1913, with Miss Leona Bateman serving as librarian.

This library served its community as a public library until recently, when the move was made to a new building.
